The manner in which the trial proceeded as noticed above, leaves the impression that the prosecution witnesses considered the court room as a playing field for a friendly match. Unfortunately, the trial court assumed the role of a referee forgetting the important role that it had to play in the dispensation of justice dealing with the serious issue of a death sentence and life imprisonment affecting not only the liberty but also the life of a citizen. We affirm the rest of the judgment and order of acquittal passed by the High Court.
